Come join us as we take a trip down memory lane with our theme: A Blast from the Past: Highlighting the Decades. We are so excited about Camp Sunshine 2021. We anticipate having a fun-filled summer. Camp Sunshine is a summer day camp for individuals with physical, intellectual or developmental disabilities. In its 43rd year of operation, Camp Sunshine is held at the DENNY TERRACE CENTER, 6429 Bishop Avenue, Columbia, SC 29203. Camp is scheduled Monday through Thursday, drop off is between 8:00 am-9:00 am, pick up is between 2:45 pm-3:00 pm. ALL campers MUST be picked up by 3:00 pm unless attending extended care.
We are offering extended care for those who may need this service from 3:00-6:00 pm. Campers not picked up by 3:00 pm will be taken to extended care and charged $10.00 for that day. Campers in extended care who are not picked up by 6:00 p.m. will be charged a late fee of $1.00 per minute. If your child is in need of extended services, please be sure to indicate it on the application. Camper cannot return to extended care if previous week is not paid in full. A healthy snack will be provided during extended care for those who are not on special diets. Extended care services are $10.00 per day.
Camp will consist of six 1-week sessions. The sessions are $90 each and are as follows:

To provide a safe environment for our campers and staff we will adhere to the CDC guidelines for COVID-19 (temperature checks, wearing masks, social distancing, washing hands regularly, and appropriate sanitizing). All potential new and returning campers, ages 5 – 21 must be interviewed prior to acceptance/registering online. We are limited in the number of campers we can safely accommodate at this time. Persons with physical, intellectual or developmental disabilities are eligible to apply as long as we can accommodate their needs. For potential new and returning campers: After receiving application and current IEP (Individual Education Plan), we will set up an interview to meet with parent/guardian and child to ask/answer questions, review application, tour the facility and determine if we can accommodate his/her needs. Once accepted to camp, payment can be made. A waiting list will be started once we have reached our maximum number of campers. All approved campers (up to maximum number) will have the opportunity to apply to SC Respite Coalition for up to $776 to pay for respite (Camp Sunshine and Extended Care). All decisions are made/finalized by SC Respite Coalition for these funds.
HEALTH AND SAFETY:
We will follow guidelines set forth by the CDC and DHEC. Masks will be required, proper sanitation procedures will be followed. We will maintain social distancing as much as possible.
If camper will be absent, parent/guardian is asked to please notify Camp Sunshine of camper’s absence.
Many activities are planned in music/dance, drama/storytelling, sports/games, arts/crafts, and movies related to the theme of the week. Each activity provides an opportunity to enhance positive social interaction and self-expression that will promote growth and experience for each camper.
A healthy, USDA CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) approved lunch and snack are provided daily, except for those who are on special diets (they will be expected to bring their own lunch and snack).
The camp staff is composed of professional adults with a wealth of experience. Each activity is planned by our trained staff to provide campers with a maximum amount of fun.
THERE WILL BE NO TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED FOR CAMP SUNSHINE THIS YEAR.
