Join us for Camp Sunshine 2024. Our theme, “Camp Sunshine, Dare to Explore!” will be exciting. We anticipate having a fun-filled summer. Camp Sunshine is a summer day camp for individuals with physical, intellectual, or developmental disabilities. In its 46th year of operation, Camp Sunshine will be held at Trenholm Park, 3900 Covenant Road, Columbia, SC 29204. Camp is scheduled Monday through Friday. Drop off is between 8:00 am and 9:00 am, and pick up is between 2:45 pm and 3:00 pm. ALL Campers MUST be picked up by 3:00 pm unless attending extended care.

We offer extended care for those who may need this service from 3:00-6:00 pm. Campers not picked up by 3:00 will be enrolled in extended care and charged $10.00 for that day. Campers in extended care who are not picked up by 6:00 pm will be charged a late fee of $1.00 per minute. Please indicate on the application that your child needs extended care services. Campers cannot return to extended care if the previous week is not paid for in full. A healthy snack will be provided during extended care. Parents/guardians should provide a snack for their camper if on a special diet. Extended care services are $10.00 per day per camper.

ALL NEW AND RETURNING APPLICANTS, ages 5-21, with physical, intellectual, or developmental disabilities, are eligible to apply. The in-house application process must be completed (by new and returning applicants) before completing the online registration. The in-house application process is as follows: Submit the application with the current IEP (Individual Education Plan), set up/attend the interview with parent/guardian and child, and receive approval or denial that we can or cannot accommodate your child’s needs. Once accepted to camp, payment can be made online. An interview does not guarantee a child’s acceptance to camp. Space is limited. A waiting list will be created once we have reached our maximum number of campers.

All campers (up to a maximum number) approved for Camp Sunshine 2024 will have the opportunity to apply for respite funds from SC Respite Coalition. Further information will be given at the interview.

We will follow health and safety procedures to provide a safe environment for our campers and staff.

If the camper will be absent, the parent/guardian is asked to notify Camp Sunshine of the camper’s absence.

Many activities are planned to include music/dance, drama/storytelling, sports/games, arts/crafts, movies, and other special activities. Each activity provides an opportunity to enhance positive social interaction and self-expression while promoting growth and experience for each camper.

A healthy, USDA CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) approved lunch and snacks are provided daily, except for those on special diets. The parent/guardian will be responsible for providing lunch and snacks for the camper who is on a special diet.

The camp staff is composed of professional adults with a wealth of experience. Our trained staff plans each activity to provide campers with a maximum amount of fun.

Transportation will be available on a first-come, first-served basis within limits at designated pick-up/drop-off points. We do not provide door-to-door service. PLEASE CIRCLE “YES” ON THE APPLICATION IF TRANSPORTATION IS NEEDED. SPACE IS LIMITED. If you circled “yes,” you will be contacted by transportation staff about pick up/drop off points and times before camp begins.
