Get ready for a fun-filled summer of laughter, learning, and unforgettable memories! Now in its 46th year, Camp Sunshine is a summer day camp designed for individuals with physical, intellectual, and developmental disabilities. Our program offers exciting recreational activities, meaningful character development, and a safe, supportive environment where children can learn at their own pace, build confidence, grow, and have fun every day!

Camp Sunshine (Ages 5-21)

Trenholm Park, 3900 Covenant Road, Columbia, SC 29204

Dates: June 8 – July 24, 2026
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Fees:

  • $90 per week (including all activities)
  • Extended care services are $10.00 per day per camper
  • Extended care late pick-up fee of $1.00 per minute

 

To secure your child’s spot, weekly payments must be made by the Friday before the upcoming camp week. Important Registration Policies:

No refunds or credits for absences, early pickups, weather closures, or other unforeseen circumstances.

 

Payment Methods: Credit/debit cards accepted. Checks and money orders must be made payable to Richland County Recreation Commission. No Cash…
Holiday Closure: All RCRC summer camps will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2026. Camp will resume on Monday, July 6, 2026.

Required Documents for Registration:

✔️ An updated Individualized Education Program (IEP)

Camp is scheduled Monday through Friday. The drop-off is between 8:00 am and 9:00 am, and pick-up is between 2:45 pm and 3:00 pm. ALL Campers MUST be picked up by 3:00 pm unless attending extended care.

EXTENDED CARE:
We offer extended care for those who may need this service from 3:00-6:00 pm. Please indicate on the application that your child needs extended care services. Campers cannot return to extended care if the previous week is not paid for in full. A healthy snack will be provided during extended care. Parents/guardians should provide a snack for their camper if on a special diet.

Please Note: If camper are not picked up at 3:00pm camper will automatic be enrolled into extended care.

ELIGIBILITY:
Eligibility & Application Process
All new and returning applicants, ages 5–21, with physical, intellectual, or developmental disabilities are eligible to apply. All applicants must complete the in-house application process.

Application steps include:
• Submit a completed application along with your child’s current IEP (Individualized Education Program)
• Participate in a scheduled interview with the parent/guardian and child
• Receive an approval letter or notification that your child has been placed on the waiting list

Once accepted into Camp Sunshine, payment can be made online.

Please note: An interview does not guarantee acceptance. Space is limited, and a waiting list will be established once the maximum number of campers has been reached.

SC Respite Coalition
Approved campers (up to the maximum number) will have the opportunity to apply for respite funding through the SC Respite Coalition. Additional details will be shared during the interview.

Health & Safety
We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all campers and staff by following established health and safety procedures.

Attendance
If a camper will be absent, parents/guardians are asked to notify Camp Sunshine as soon as possible.

Activities
Camp Sunshine offers a variety of fun and engaging activities, including music and dance, drama and storytelling, sports and games, arts and crafts, movies, and other special events. Each activity is designed to encourage positive social interaction, self-expression, growth, and meaningful experiences for every camper.

Food Program
Nutritious USDA CACFP–approved lunches and snacks are provided daily. Campers on special diets must bring their own lunch and snacks, which should be provided by the parent/guardian.

Our Staff
Our camp is staffed by experienced, trained professionals who thoughtfully plan each activity to ensure a safe, supportive, and fun-filled experience for all campers.

Transportation
Transportation is available on a first-come, first-served basis within designated limits and at approved pick-up and drop-off locations. Door-to-door service is not provided. Please circle “YES” on the application if transportation is needed, as space is limited. Families who request transportation will be contacted prior to camp with pick-up and drop-off times and locations will be contact by the assign bus driver.
