James E. Clyburn Technology Center

The Technology Center is one of the few places that offers free public internet access and use of computers and software.  Classes are available for ages 16+ and are offered at several different times and days, to fit anyone’s busy schedule.  Whether on the hunt for a job or brushing up on the latest version of Microsoft products, our instructors are knowledgeable and professional.  Classes are small to maximize learning potential for each student.  Make sure to check out the classes or call the center to find out how to get started today!

Introduction to Computers I

This is a beginner’s class.  Starting with maneuvering the mouse to learning the components of the PC and its peripherals.  This class will cover how to manage Windows and how to organize files and folders.  Introduction to word processing, internet and email basics will also be covered in this course.

Introduction to Computers II

This class follows the Introduction to Computers I or can be a refresher course if you know the basics.  Microsoft Office software application will be further explored.  Learn which application to use for your specific tasks!

Introduction to Excel

This is an introductory class that will teach you how to create, edit and format workbooks.  At the end of the course, students will be able to perform calculations, modify and edit worksheets and more.

Microsoft PowerPoint

Use PowerPoint to create professional presentations to entertain your audience and captivate their attention by creating effective PowerPoint slides with animations, visual aids and digital photos, etc.

Microsoft Publisher

Learn how to create publications quickly and easily by choosing from a variety of backgrounds, layouts and artwork or create one from scratch.  At the end of this class you will be able to create brochures, newsletters, fliers and other publications for print or web.

Social Networking for Businesses

Learn how to leverage the power of social media to drastically improve your job search.  Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube are among the top social networking communication sites and they are used to develop and manage personal brands to employers.

Microsoft Office Word

Learn how to create and modify documents using Word 2010. You’ll learn how to add, move and edit text; work on two or more documents simultaneously; change the size or appearance of text; change margins and tab settings; automatically center, right align, justify, and indent text; run the integrated grammar and spelling checker; use the thesaurus; and save, retrieve, copy, organize, and print your documents.

Resume Development

Learn the different types of resumes and tips on how to create a successful resume; as well as have a greater understanding of the construction of resume content that defines achievements and sets the scene to achieve goals.  The second part of the class will be hands on and students will be able to start compiling a resume.  Please bring some type of media storage device to save your resume to.

Laptop Basics for Seniors

Learning to use a computer can be overwhelming for some.  This is a beginner class where you can learn to use your laptop.   This course is geared toward adults who have no experience with a laptop or who have minimal experience on a desktop.  If you or anyone you know has just purchased a laptop and has trouble using one, this FREE course will be the perfect solution.
