Any person with physical, intellectual or developmental disabilities, ages 5 through 26, as long as we can accommodate their needs, is eligible to attend. For potential new campers: After receiving application and current IEP (Individual Education Plan), we will meet with parent/guardian and child to ask/answer questions, review application, tour the facility and to determine if we can accommodate his/her needs. Returning campers: If a returning camper’s needs changes, and after attempts have been made to rectify the situation, and Supervisor has met with parent/guardian, and we are still unable to accommodate camper’s needs, the camper may be removed from Camp Sunshine. A waiting list will be started once we reach our maximum number of campers.
It is very important that campers attend every day. We are contracted to serve a certain number of students per day in our program.
Many activities are planned in music/dance, drama/storytelling, sports/games, arts/crafts and field trips such as bowling and swimming. If your child participates in swimming, please send appropriate swimwear (swimsuit, swim trunks, “swimmies”, if needed) and a towel in a bag labeled with their name on their assigned swimming day. Each activity provides an opportunity to enhance positive social interaction and self-expression that will promote growth and experience for each camper.
A healthy, USDA CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) approved lunch and snack are provided daily, except for those who are on special diets (they will be expected to bring their own lunch and snack).
The camp staff is composed of professional adults with a wealth of experience. Each activity is planned by our staff of specialists to provide campers with a maximum amount of fun.
If you have no other means of getting your child to camp and need bus service, transportation will be available within limits at designated pick-up/drop-off points. We do not provide door-to-door service. PLEASE CIRCLE “YES” ON APPLICATION IF TRANSPORTATION IS NEEDED. SPACE IS LIMITED.
